Climate change is becoming a similar threat to biodiversity as the habitat destruction by human activity has been during the past decade.
The year 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity and it aims at, for example, increasing awareness about the significance of nature’s diversity for human beings as well as other life forms, reducing the reduction of biodiversity and bringing up practical examples of the diversity of nature in different parts of the world.
In addition to carbon footprint, the use of water or water balance is becoming a more frequent topic. The smallest water footprints of food products are between a few hundred litres and one thousand litres per kilogram of raw material, medium-sized water footprints are between one thousand and five thousand litres, and large water footprints are around 10,000 litres. In the Baltic Sea region, we have enough fresh water – for now.
Some of Fazer’s production areas are located in groundwater areas or close to them. The protection of groundwater is part of Fazer’s environmental work, and it aims at ensuring the supply of high-quality domestic water also in the future.
