Eutrophication

In the Baltic Sea region, the greatest environmental impact caused by food production is eutrophication of waters.

Eutrophication is a consequence of a century-long nutrient load caused by human action. For example, settlement in the coastal states of the Baltic Sea, industry, farming and forestry bring about loading.

Fazer is able to decrease the nutrient load to the Baltic Sea that causes eutrophication by favouring sustainable farming and raw materials.

It is important that the sewage from the production facilities is as limited as possible even though the sewage goes to municipal sewage treatment plants.
