We want to add some extra joy and meaningful moments to every day – to make each day a little better, step by step. Using cage-free eggs is an important step in improving animal welfare. It is also one important step towards our goal to use 100% sustainably sourced raw materials: we have committed to using only sustainably sourced raw materials by 2030.
Sustainability work is all about cooperation
We collaborate closely with producers, raw material suppliers and animal rights organizations, for example. Dialogue with different stakeholders is extremely important in improving the sustainability of production chains.
Our decision to stop using battery farmed eggs was a conclusion of discussions with our stakeholders, and we are grateful for the valuable information and support we got from them.
At Fazer, we see food as a solution. As a major Nordic food company, we carry our responsibility for the impacts of our actions, and we believe that we can really make a difference. By committing to using only cage-free eggs, we will improve the welfare of millions of chickens in the Nordic countries and the Baltics, and in the longer term, in Russia.
This is how we will increase the share of cage-free eggs, to reach 100%
- In 2020, at least 30% of the eggs we use are cage-free.
- In 2022, at least 70% of the eggs we use are cage-free.
- In 2024, 100% of the eggs we use in the Nordic and Baltic countries are cage-free.
- In 2030, all eggs we use in all countries are cage-free.
We monitor the development towards these targets continuously and report our progress yearly, as part of our sustainability reporting. In 2019, the share of cage-free eggs in all our businesses was 32%*.
If necessary, we will review our targets and look for new solutions to support sustainable egg production and animal welfare. Step by step, one meaningful moment at a time, we can build a better tomorrow.

We cooperate with other companies, NGOs, and public authorities. We look for new innovations and technological solutions for reducing our emissions, and we promote best possible practices for sustainable business in our own activities, as well as in the food industry as a whole.
Together with our suppliers we develop our requirements for our supply chain, and we monitor their compliance with our requirements continuously.
We have worked on sustainability for decades, but we too still have work to do and things to improve on. That is why we continue our sustainability work as passionately, ambitiously and devotedly as ever.
